How to host a Christmas trivia night
Choose the right pack, prepare the complete kit and bring your teams together for a festive trivia night.

Choose a Christmas quiz pack whose categories suit your guests, then use the complete kit as supplied. The questions, answer key and handouts give you a ready-to-run game, so you can focus on welcoming teams and hosting the party.
This guide helps you compare Christmas quiz packs, prepare the supplied materials and host every ten-question category without trimming or rebuilding rounds. Use it at work, at home or in a community venue.

Choose a Christmas quiz pack by its categories
Look beyond the number on the pack. Pick the subjects your guests will enjoy discussing, then check whether the picture and audio rounds suit your room. These are different category mixes, not difficulty ratings.

The product pages list the full contents and current purchase details. Category listings were checked on October 1, 2026. The original Christmas Quiz, for example, lists seven ten-question categories, a final question, a tie-breaker, handouts, an automated scoring system, a how-to manual and PDF, Word and PowerPoint formats. Check the selected pack’s own page rather than assuming every listing is identical.
Not sure where to start? View the original Christmas Quiz if you like a mix of literature, toys, food and entertainment. If the group already played it, compare the categories in the other packs above and keep a note of which pack you use this year.
Fit the quiz to the party you are hosting
For an office Christmas party
Keep the game within the scheduled slot and explain that participation is optional. Mix teams across departments where that is welcome, without making people perform, sing or share personal stories. A team size of four to six is a practical starting point; a quieter colleague can contribute a written suggestion rather than answering in front of the whole room.
Check whether a specifically Christmas-themed activity suits your group. Do not assume everyone celebrates Christmas or knows the same films and songs. If the event needs a broader end-of-year theme, consider a general-knowledge quiz pack instead.
For a family or friends’ party
Mix ages and interests within teams rather than assigning all the children or first-time players to one table. Read through the actual questions before the event to assess suitability; a seasonal title alone does not tell you the reading level or content of every question. Coordinate the meal and the quiz so there is time to enjoy the complete kit.
For a pub or community event
Confirm the start time with the person managing food service, the microphone and the room. Advertise the expected duration and maximum team size. Keep enough light for players to read their answer sheets, and check the host can be heard at the furthest table.
Run the complete Christmas quiz kit
Use the pack as supplied: keep all ten questions in each category, the original handouts and the matching answer key together. Follow the included host manual and scoring instructions, including any final round and tie-breaker. There is no need to cut questions, renumber sheets or rebuild the quiz.
- Before guests arrive: open the files, read the host manual, print the supplied handouts and test the presentation, microphone and audio.
- Welcome: organize teams, hand out materials and explain the kit’s scoring, answer submission and final-round rules.
- Play the full categories: follow the supplied order and keep every ten-question round intact. Give teams enough time to discuss each question.
- Collect, reveal and score: use the matching answer key and supplied scoring system. Apply the same answer rulings to every team.
- Take a break: pause between complete rounds for food, drinks or a comfort break. Tell teams when play resumes.
- Finish the kit: follow its final-round instructions, check totals and use the supplied tie-breaker if needed.
- Celebrate: announce the winners, thank the helpers and record the pack used so you avoid repeating it next time.
Set the pace around the whole kit. Read through the material and rehearse with the equipment you will use before advertising a finish time. Allow for team discussion, answer reviews, marking and breaks. The pack is ready to run; the event’s duration depends on your group and hosting pace. If the party also includes dinner or other activities, give the complete quiz its own part of the evening rather than compressing the questions.
Download the complete-kit Christmas host checklist (PDF). Record your pack, host, scorer, equipment and planned breaks.
Keep the scoring easy to explain
Use the kit’s supplied scoring system and host instructions. Explain the ordinary category scoring and any special final-round rules before play, and keep the original answer sheets and answer key together.
Give each team a name or number and one answer sheet per round. With a small social group, teams can exchange sheets for marking while the host reads the answers. With prizes or a more competitive audience, a dedicated scorer can check the original sheets. Keep the papers until the final totals are confirmed.
Announce what happens if teams tie. For a numerical tie-breaker, the closest answer wins whether it is above or below, unless you have specified a different rule. If two answers are equally close, use a second question or share the placing as announced.
A short welcome you can read aloud
“Welcome to our Christmas quiz. We’re playing the complete Christmas quiz kit, with ten questions in each category. I’ll explain the kit’s scoring and any special final-round rules before we start. Choose a team name and a person to write your answers. Please keep outside help away while the questions are in play. We’ll explain the answers after each round, and any score queries should come to [scorer] before the next round ends. You can join in as much or as little as you like. Let’s start.”
Make an exception for access tools or essential phone use rather than asking someone to explain a private need to the room. The point of the outside-help rule is to stop answer searching, not to prevent participation.
Check the room before guests arrive
- Open the final presentation and answer key, then confirm that the answer slides will not appear early
- Test the microphone and any audio using the same laptop, cable and speakers you will use during play
- Print the correct answer sheets and picture handouts, plus a few spares
- Put pens on tables and keep a paper master score sheet as a backup
- Turn background music down or off while reading questions
- Keep decorations out of sightlines and walkways, and avoid lights that make print hard to read
- Agree who handles late arrivals, scoring corrections and prizes so the host can keep the game moving
For remote players, do a separate rehearsal of question delivery, team discussion and answer submission. For a hybrid party, make sure remote guests can hear the host and contribute to a team; a laptop at the far end of the room is not a complete setup.
Choose the pack, then finish the plan
The next step is to choose the content that fits your guests. See the original Christmas Quiz and its included files, or compare Christmas Quiz #2, Christmas Quiz #3 and Christmas Quiz #8 by their categories. Once you have the pack, read the host manual, test the supplied files and print the handouts. Run the categories as supplied.
If you are still deciding whether trivia belongs in the party at all, our Christmas party quiz overview covers that earlier decision. This plan is for turning the decision into a game you can host.
